January 11th, 2010

North; seems odd to be travelling in this direction in the middle of January.  Not much more to go before we veer westward for the first time on our journey.  Panhandle is coming up.  Being a visible minority, I’m a little apprehensive of what lies ahead in Alabama and Mississippi.  I’m sure there are a lot of nice folks there, but where there’s good; there’s also the bad.  I just hope I don’t end up being the ugly.  Gotta stay sharp…sheesh I watch too many movies.
Amanda’s steed has been a lazy bone as of late.  Just doesn’t want to get up and go first thing in the morning.  Cold starts has been a pain in the buttocks.  We stopped at Advance Auto to pick up a new spark plug to see if that would rectify the problem.  It was here that we met Cord Newman.  I usually like to keep everyone anonymous in the ride report and use their handle names on ADV for privacy concerns.  Cord was an exception.  1.) He’s not on ADV and 2.) He’s a stunt actor.  Any publicity is good publicity as far as actors are concerned.  Cord has taken time off from work for the past little while to spend quality time with his family in Ocala.  Today, Cord and his wife are getting ready to make the move back to Hollywood and get right back in on the action.  Cord was actually making some final adjustments to a beater truck he was going to use for a stunt in New Orleans.  We all got talking and the next thing we know; we’re invited over to his place to spend the night.

We arrived at Cord’s house late afternoon and it was here where we were introduced to Cord’s wife.  She had put out this wonderful spread for dinner and I don’t know how this happened, but it did; we started on a deep discussion about religion.  I’ve been told there are two things you DO NOT talk about in the US:  politics & religion.  Someone had a brilliant idea for all of us to go out and grab milkshakes at Sonic.  This helped lighten things up a bit.  When we got back to the house, we watched movies Cord has been in.  It was a real treat to see him on the big screen.  Cord was the first random person we met and had the pleasure to stay with.
